What are the advantages of venturing into the hot dog cart business? Firstly, you would be your own boss. No more answering to someone else; the days of bottling your anger at being accused of messing up a project is gone. You would be working for yourself, and not for anyone else. You would have something to call yours. The hot dog cart is your business, not anyone else's. You can choose your time. No more rushing your lunch; you have all the time in the world to finish it. You can hang out and talk and laugh with all sorts of people. This time, you are actually encouraged to mingle at work, and you do this by putting your customers at ease and making best friends out of them (definitely good for business-this would make them come back again and again, and not only for the dogs, but for your company too). And most of all, whatever you make is your own. Whatever you are slaving for does not come in a fixed amount. Instead, it can be as much as you want it to be.

So how do you get started? Observe the other hot dog sellers. Take note of how they do business. Then scout around for a place for your own cart. Secure a permit in order to operate at your chosen location. If your area is one of those that do not allow hot dog carts, you can always transfer your cart somewhere else. After all, of what use is a hot dog cart if it is not mobile? If you really insist on operating in your area, however, you may do so on private property or cater to parties and other social gatherings. Attend a course in food handling. Proving that you have done so will pave the way to the health department's approval of your business. Make sure you are sticking to the law by becoming well-versed in the health code requirements.

After accomplishing everything previously mentioned, you may now go and get your very own hot dog cart. The challenge does not stop here, however. The main thing is to get customers. And how do you get customers if you are so hell-bent on making a profit, you do not bother being courteous and friendly to them at all? Paint your cart umbrella a nice bright color, doff your cap (if you are wearing one) to passersby who happen to glance your way, call out to the kids cheerfully, talk sports with the guys who hang around, be jolly around the ladies, and you would have a roaring trade in no time.
